Lakeside lovin'

Updated: Aug 24, 2021

Rutherglen's resurgence as the wine capital of Victoria is undisputed: the main street continues to blossom with new restaurants, cafes and curios shops. Likewise, the wineries that created the foundation for the town's reputation as a vibrant vingneron's dream, continue to reinvent themselves in times of Covid thanks to their steadfast resilience and the support of locals and lovers of food and wine.

Lake Moodemere Estate is certainly no exception. David and Belinda Chambers are inspired by their own family gatherings, sharing food, wine, company, the beauty of the landscape and the bounty of the produce grown at their family estate that has homed seven generations and offers intimate or group bookings for lunch and dinner at The Lakeside Restaurant as well as boutique accomodation at the Moodemere Lake House, making a stay at the lake, the ultimate wine experience! "As well as our single vineyard wines, we grow our own lamb, wheat, honey, citrus, eggs vegetables and herbs," Belinda told us." The menu, with executive chef Jarrod Smith at the helm, is creative and driven by the best of what the season has to offer, as captured below, in Winter 2021's menu.

Lunch Highlight: This dessert! Plus the gnocchi with lamb and olive ragu!

Wine highlight: Chambers Rutherglen Muscat, perfect warmer on a cool winter's afternoon.

Staycation highlight: The view across the lake plus freshly baked croissants delivered to the door for breakfast. See my video for more!
